Bridgestone India aims to revive biodiversity along with groundwater recharge in areas of Madhya Pradesh with severe water scarcity. Three traditional water bodies in about 140 acres of catchment area in Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh have been included for revitalization under 'Project Pravah' implemented through Society for Agriculture and Environmental Sustainability. The problem of water scarcity in these areas has become serious due to over-depletion of ground water which has been going on for many years.
Dhar district has been facing severe water scarcity and depletion of ground water resources for the last few years. Groundwater withdrawal levels have reached 100 percent of annual groundwater recharge, and in some places even more. From this it is clear that groundwater is being used in an unsustainable manner. Especially in the pre-monsoon months, the groundwater level has dropped to 10 to 20 meters below the ground. This has greatly affected the availability of drinking water as well as irrigation.

Through 'Project Flow', water security is being ensured, local ecosystems are being revitalized and communities are being empowered to prosper. For this, the focus is on nature-based rehabilitation, community participation in the field, and creation of new livelihood opportunities for underprivileged women in the area. The project also complements the institute's existing biodiversity initiatives, including 9.5 acres of biodiversity parks and community gardens, developed to promote environmental education, biodiversity awareness and nature conservation.
The objective of this initiative is to recharge around 1.5 lakh metric tonnes of ground water. This will help provide a more stable water supply for nearby homes, livestock and agriculture. It will also create more biodiverse habitats and help rural communities cope more effectively with the challenges posed by climate change.
