Major initiatives by India Post and Coversure; The message of insurance literacy will now reach every home through domestic letters!

Coversure, a consumer-facing insurtech platform, has partnered with India Post, the Government of India’s postal service and operator of the world’s largest postal network, to boost insurance readiness and claims preparedness among Indian households. Launched under the #ChitthiAayiHai initiative, this collaboration is reviving one of India’s most familiar and trusted communication mediums, Inland Letters. This will encourage families to record, share and secure important insurance information, so they can be better prepared in the event of an emergency or claim.

The initiative also marks the introduction of barcode-enabled inland letters by India Post. This will allow senders to digitally track their letters while maintaining the simplicity and intimacy of traditional letters. This barcode feature will be implemented for all domestic letters in the future.
As part of this initiative, in the first phase CoverSure will use 10,000 inland letters across 15 cities through India Post’s delivery network. Through this initiative, policyholders will be encouraged to register and share essential insurance details with their families, including policy number, nominee (beneficiary) information, insurance limit, TPA contact, claim helpline and nearest cashless network hospitals.

This concept is being extended to insurance industry veterans and stakeholders in the ecosystem to create a broad discussion on insurance literacy, beneficiary awareness, claim preparedness and insurance literacy at the family level. According to CoverSure, though the use of insurance is increasing in the country, the gap between having a policy and being prepared by the beneficiary is the biggest barrier to effective utilization of the insurance facility. Policyholders may be faithfully paying premiums for years, but their spouses, children or parents often do not know where the policy documents are kept, what benefits are available, who to contact or how to initiate the claim process. Lack of this information can delay or even deny insurance benefits during a medical emergency or after the death of a loved one.

The initiative comes at a time when the focus of the entire insurance sector is on improving beneficiary preparedness. According to IRDAI# data, as on 28th February 2026, insurance companies had unclaimed sums lying with Rs 8,973.89 crore. This statistic highlights the need to write down policy information and claim-related details and share them with family members. Similarly, a recent survey conducted by Coversurer revealed that 60 percent of dependents in the family were not aware of the insurance policy that covered them.
#ChitthiAayiHai This step is taken to make information about insurance more prominently available and usable at home. Each inward letter contains a message from the coversure and provides a guide for policyholders, so that they can reassure their family of protection. This initiative transforms the inbound letter into a practical and useful tool, taking important insurance information out of scattered documents, emails and apps into a format that family members can easily find and understand.

This activity also uses the emotional recognition of the inward letter to encourage action. Through the generations, inland letters have passed on personal news, family secrets, and memories that are still important today. After interacting with over 125 families, Coversure found that most have kept their inland letters for over 30 to 50 years and they are still in great shape! CoverSure is now using that same trusted format to deliver a different message: one that encourages families to talk openly about insurance, protection and preparedness.
Commenting on the initiative, Saurabh Vijayvargiya, Founder and CEO, Coversure said, “Insurance should not be confined to policy documents or digital folders. Those who have taken it to protect themselves need to know that insurance exists, know where to find it and how to use it. Through #ChitthiAayiHai, we want to encourage every policyholder to have this conversation with their family, not during an emergency, but before it happens. Not just a one-time initiative, this is a long-term partnership with India Post, keeping in mind the trust and interests of Indian citizens.”

He added, “Discussions about insurance often focus only on policy purchase and coverage extension. But it is equally important for the family to know exactly how the purchased insurance will benefit them. A policy becomes truly valuable only when the right information reaches the right people at the right time. It is our effort to make this information easier to share, find and act on.”
Expressing his opinion about this collaboration, the Chief Postmaster General of Maharashtra Circle of India Post Shri. Amitabh Singh said, “India Post has always served as a trusted link connecting individuals, families and communities. Through this collaboration with Coversure, we are delighted to be supporting an initiative that is not just a letter, but an important message of financial literacy and preparedness. The physical delivery of 10,000 inland letters across various cities is a reminder of the important role face-to-face communication plays in building public awareness and trust. We are proud to have implemented the initiative on a large scale and to officially register this milestone in our portfolio.”

Coversure works on a combination of insurance literacy, technology and decision support. Their AI-based platform helps individuals build smart insurance portfolios, understand policy benefits and cover pitfalls, and find affordable options for health, life, auto and travel insurance. Through the #ChitthiAayiHai initiative, the company is taking the same campaign offline to direct families and supporting the Government of India’s Insurance for All by 2047 campaign. In a nutshell, #ChitthiAayiHai reinforces the coversurer’s belief that the full value of insurance comes only when those it is taken to protect know how to take advantage of it in times of crisis.
