Major terrorist conspiracy foiled; Babbar Khalsa International operator arrested with IED explosives from Jalandhar

Chandigarh/Jalandhar- In a major success against cross-border terror networks during the ongoing campaign to make Punjab a secure state as per the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Counter Intelligence (CI) Jalandhar, in a joint operation with Jalandhar Rural Police, has busted an ISI-backed BKI terror module run by foreign handlers. The operator of Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module supporting the Punjab government has been arrested from Jalandhar and the module has been busted. This information was given by Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here today.

The arrested accused has been identified as Satbir Singh, a resident of village Padiyana, Adampur, Jalandhar. Apart from recovering the explosive material, police teams have also recovered the black Platina motorcycle (PB-08-ET-6736) on which he was riding.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that as a result of this operation, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) packed with 1.3 kg of high explosive, including shrapnel and ball bearings, has been recovered, which shows that the aim of the terrorist module was to disturb peace and order in the state. “This prompt and timely action has averted a major terrorist threat and saved many innocent lives,” he said. Giving details about the operation, he said that CI Jalandhar teams had received specific information that the operatives of the BKI module had received the consignment of explosives at the behest of their foreign handlers.

Acting immediately, teams of CI Jalandhar and Jalandhar Rural Police formed a joint check post at village Dhandor and stopped the motorcycle of suspect Satbir Singh and recovered the IED from his bag during search, he said. The DGP said that further investigation is underway to expose the entire terrorist network including foreign handlers and local networks involved in this conspiracy and to trace the back-and-forth links in this case. In this regard, a case has been registered under sections 113(1) and 113(3) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), sections 4 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act and section 25(1B)(A) of the Arms Act at Patara Police Station, Jalandhar Rural.
