Nag Panchami is one of the major festivals of Hindu religion. On this day, along with worshiping the snake god, various types of dishes are prepared and offered in homes. If you also want to make some traditional and delicious Prasad for worship on this Nag Panchami, then Jaggery Puri can be a great option.
To make Jaggery Puri, not many ingredients are required. It is prepared by adding fennel and ghee along with wheat flour and jaggery. Jaggery gives slight sweetness to the puris, while fennel further improves its aroma and taste.
Ingredients to make Jaggery Puri
- 2 cups wheat flour
- 1 cup jaggery
- half glass of water
- 1 spoon ghee
- half teaspoon fennel
- oil or ghee for frying
Prepare jaggery puri like this
First of all break the jaggery into small pieces. Now put it in lukewarm water and mix it well. Keep in mind that the water should not be too hot.
After this, take wheat flour in a big vessel and add fennel seeds and one spoon of ghee and mix it. Now knead the dough with the help of jaggery water. The dough should neither be too soft nor too hard.
After the dough is ready, keep it covered for about 15 minutes. After this, make small balls of dough and roll them lightly. Avoid rolling the puris too thinly.
Now heat oil or ghee in the pan. When the oil is hot, add the puris one by one and fry them on medium or low flame until they turn golden on both the sides. Take out the prepared jaggery puris in a plate.
Tips to improve taste and texture
Keeping some small things in mind while making jaggery puri can make it taste even better. Do not use very hot water to dissolve jaggery. Adding some ghee while kneading the dough can improve the texture of puri.
Apart from fennel, you can also use some cardamom powder for taste. At the same time, due to jaggery, puri turns golden faster than normal puri, hence avoid frying them on high flame.
These jaggery puris can be offered after the puja on the day of Nag Panchami. Due to less ingredients and easy method, this traditional prasad can be easily prepared at home.
