A lesser-known chapter from Mahatma Gandhi’s life was set to come alive on the big screen as Indian actor Manoj Bajpayee took on the role of the iconic leader in filmmaker Sudhir Mishra’s upcoming theatrical project.

The film was being directed by Sudhir Mishra and had been produced by Anubhav Sinha and Narendra Hirawat under Benaras Mediaworks. NH Studioz was presenting the project, which focused on a 21-day period from Gandhi’s life during the time surrounding India’s Independence.

The makers had revealed that the story explored the period when Gandhi had moved away from Delhi, which was becoming the centre of political activity after Independence. The film aimed to present a specific phase of his journey rather than covering his entire life.

Talking about the project, Sudhir Mishra had said, “This new film focuses on an important yet lesser-known chapter of history—the 21 days in the life of Mahatma Gandhi during India’s independence.”

He had added, “At a time when the nation was stepping into freedom, and Delhi was becoming the centre of power, Gandhi made an unexpected choice: he chose to walk away. But by walking away, he did not retreat. He reinvented himself.”

The film marked the first time Manoj Bajpayee had portrayed Mahatma Gandhi on screen. Saurabh Shukla was also part of the cast in a key role.
