Maruti Baleno Facelift To Get ADAS But With A Twist: Details

The 2026 Maruti Suzuki Baleno facelift could add something no Baleno has offered before: ADAS. But anyone expecting adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking may need to reset expectations.

The latest information from V3Cars points to a new Alpha (O) variant sitting above the present Alpha. Its ADAS package is expected to use a rear radar and include blind-spot warning, safe-exit warning and rear cross-traffic alert. Front parking sensors are also being considered, although that feature is less certain.

Maruti Suzuki has not officially announced the Alpha (O), its equipment or prices yet. The Baleno facelift is expected in early September, with a Nexa event scheduled for September 5 and 6.

This is important as the term ADAS now covers a very wide range of functions. Blind-spot warning watches the area beside and behind the car and alerts the driver if another vehicle is difficult to see in the mirrors.

Rear cross-traffic alert is useful when reversing out of a parking slot because it can warn about a vehicle approaching from the side. Safe-exit warning can alert occupants if opening a door could put them in the path of approaching traffic.

These functions can be valuable in crowded city use, but they do not drive the car for you. There is currently no indication that the Baleno will get front-radar features such as adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning or autonomous emergency braking.

The expected setup appears similar in philosophy to Maruti’s latest limited ADAS approach on the Brezza, concentrating on rear-side collision awareness rather than a full Level 2 suite.

The current top-end Baleno already gets equipment that was once associated with considerably more expensive cars. Alpha variants offer a 360-degree camera, head-up display, 9-inch touchscreen, cruise control and automatic climate control.

Six airbags are now standard across the range, along with electronic stability control, hill-hold assist, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors and ISOFIX child-seat mounts. That makes the reported Alpha (O) interesting.

Instead of using ADAS to fix an otherwise basic safety package, Maruti would be adding another layer to a car that already has most of the important conventional safety equipment. Front parking sensors would also complement the existing 360-degree camera. Cameras show the driver what is around the car, while sensors provide an audible warning as the bumper gets close to an obstacle.

Pricing will decide whether the extra technology makes sense. After an August price revision, the current Baleno costs Rs 5.99 lakh for the Sigma manual and goes up to Rs 9.47 lakh for the Alpha AMT. The Alpha manual is Rs 8.97 lakh. Maruti increased Alpha prices by Rs 30,000 this month alone.

There is no official Alpha (O) price yet. Based on the current top variant and the additional radar hardware, a reasonable expectation is that a petrol Alpha (O) automatic, if offered, could move close to or beyond Rs 10 lakh ex-showroom. That is an estimate, not a confirmed price.

Maruti has good reason to keep investing in the Baleno despite the SUV boom. It sold 18,241 units in July 2026, up 46 per cent year on year, making it the seventh best-selling car in the market. ADAS, CNG-AMT and an exterior refresh could help the Baleno its undisputed leadership status in the premium hatchback segment.
