Automobile Desk – Along with maintaining its strong hold in the Indian automobile market, Maruti Suzuki is now setting new records in the global market as well. The compact SUV of the country's largest car manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki Fronx, has set a new sales record in the international market. From being manufactured in India to being shipped to foreign markets, it has become the fastest SUV in the country to export 2 lakh units in just less than 38 months.
It is a matter of great pride for the Indian automobile industry that the demand for Fronts manufactured at the Hansalpur Manufacturing Plant in Gujarat is increasing rapidly across the world. The company is exporting this made-in-India SUV to about 90 countries of the world. This includes the major markets of Latin America, Africa, Middle East and Asia as well as a country with developed and stringent automobile regulations like Japan, where the quality of Indian vehicles is being greatly appreciated.
If we look at the export journey of this car, the first consignment of Franks was dispatched from Indian ports to foreign markets in June 2023. Since then, a huge jump has been seen in the global demand for this model. This vehicle had completed the export figure of 1 lakh units in about 25 months. However, the export of the next 1 lakh vehicles happened so fast that within just 13 months the company crossed the milestone of 2 lakh exports. Achieving the second Rs 1 lakh in almost half the time as compared to the first Rs 1 lakh proves how much this SUV's dominance is growing in the international markets.
Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki, expressed happiness over this historic achievement and said that every vehicle exported from India is a symbol of the dedication and skill of the country's workforce. This huge success of Franks greatly strengthens the 'Make in India, Make for the World' campaign of the Government of India. The company has been working on developing India as its major global export hub for a long time and is currently exporting its various vehicles from India to around 120 countries.
Maruti's strong position in the global market can be gauged from the fact that during the first quarter (Q1) of the financial year 2026-27, Maruti Suzuki models remained among the top-3 most exported passenger vehicles from India. The 2 lakh units mark achieved by Franks in a very short period of time is not only a major achievement for Maruti Suzuki, but also reflects the growing influence of the entire automobile manufacturing sector in India. The increasing demand for Indian cars across the world will further strengthen the country's emergence as an auto hub in the future.
