Delhi : Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has set a target of selling 1 million green vehicles including CNG, hybrid and electric vehicles in the current financial year. The company expects rising crude oil prices and inclusion of automatic transmission in CNG vehicles to help achieve this target. Green vehicles are environment-friendly vehicles, which emit very little or no pollution compared to conventional petrol or diesel.
The car market leader on Friday introduced automatic S-CNG versions of its popular models Swift, Dzire and Baleno as part of its 'Auto Green Mission'. The company's senior executive officer (marketing and sales) Partho Banerjee said MSIL, which has about 70 per cent market share in the CNG segment, expected to sell 8-9 lakh green vehicles this fiscal. However, after introducing new automatic transmission models, the company has raised its sales forecast to around one million units.

He said that earlier CNG models were lagging behind petrol-automatic vehicles, as they did not have an automatic transmission option. Banerjee said the new automatic S-CNG models of Swift, Dzire and Baleno have been introduced keeping in mind the new generation of customers who are not willing to compromise. These customers want the benefits of CNG's lower operating costs, but don't want to give up the convenience of an automatic vehicle. This will expand the CNG market to a customer segment that was not addressed earlier, he said while talking to reporters.
