Lucknow. Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) national president and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Mayawati on Friday targeted the government over the system of imposing fees on UPI transactions, saying that this will affect the pockets of the common people and increase their expenses.
Mayawati said in the post on 'X' that the government first promoted UPI digital transactions and is now introducing a new system of charging on it. He alleged that this step is like charging additional financial burden from the public, due to which restlessness and resentment among the people is natural.
He said that the public considers this system as an additional burden and no matter what name it is given to it. This will affect the common people and their expenses will increase. The government has exempted merchants from charging fees on UPI transactions up to Rs 2,000. The government has fixed 0.4 percent charge for merchants on UPI payments above Rs 2,000. At the same time, the maximum limit of fee on payment of Rs 75,000 or more has been kept at Rs 300. Along with this, a framework has been implemented for large digital merchant payments.
People are struggling with financial crisis
Mayawati said that a large population of the country is suffering from poverty and inflation. He suggested to the government that its policies should be more focused on public welfare rather than profit-seeking business thinking. He said that when the people are facing financial difficulties and problems, the government should be concerned about them.
Need of basic facilities in smart school
Mayawati also reacted to the announcement by the Uttar Pradesh government to make about 14,500 schools in the state 'smart schools' at a cost of about Rs 300 crore. He said that this is a good initiative, but children need basic facilities before they can study smartly. He said that proper arrangements for basic facilities like pitched roof, benches-chairs, books, toilets, playground and cleanliness should be ensured for the children in schools. He raised the question that the government should consider how all these arrangements will be completed in the budget of about Rs 2 lakh per school.
