Mayawati Statement: Ahead of next year’s assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, the issue of reservation has once again become the center of political debate. BSP supremo Mayawati posted on the social media platform ‘X’ on Sunday, supporting reservations and clarifying her stance on the creamy layer. She stated that implementing a creamy layer in reservations is against the objectives of Babasaheb Ambedkar.
Mayawati also criticized RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s recent statement, stating that such thinking on reservations is motivated by narrow political interests and goes against the objectives of the Constitution.
Reservation is a very sensitive issue
Mayawati stated that reservations for SC, ST, and OBC communities are a very sensitive issue. According to her, these communities have long faced caste-based discrimination and injustice. She added that even today, exploitation and injustice against these communities have not completely ended.
The BSP chief said that in such a situation, talking about a creamy layer in reservations is contrary to the objectives of Babasaheb Ambedkar. She appealed to everyone to work with honesty and integrity.
Counterattack on Mohan Bhagwat’s Statement
Recently, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat stated that reservations were deliberately politicized, leading to increased bitterness in society. He also stated that those benefiting from reservations could voluntarily consider relinquishing them.
Now, Mayawati has targeted Mohan Bhagwat over this statement, stating that such casteist thinking promotes narrow political interests.
Casteism Still Exists
Mayawati stated that casteism still exists in the country and its impact persists at the grassroots level. According to her, the RSS is well aware of this reality, and the central government has also been understanding of it.
She stated that if the current government presents its case in court with strong arguments to exclude SC and ST categories from the creamy layer, it would be appropriate and constitutional. She also questioned the weak legal case.
RSS should stop politicizing reservations.
Mayawati urged the RSS to stop politicizing the reservation issue. She said that any change in reservations should be stopped and attention should be focused on establishing a system of equality in society.
