Property Tax: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has launched a new initiative to help taxpayers resolve pending property tax dues and long-standing disputes in the national capital. The programme, called the Property Tax Settlement Scheme (SUNIYO 2) One Plus Seven was formally launched by Standing Committee Chairperson Satya Sharma.
Under the scheme, eligible taxpayers can settle their outstanding property tax without paying interest or penalties, provided they meet the conditions within the specified period.
What Is the One Plus Seven Scheme?
The name of the scheme explains its basic structure. The “One” represents the current financial year, 2026-27, while “Seven” covers the seven financial years immediately preceding it.
Taxpayers who pay the basic property tax due for 2026-27 along with the basic tax for the previous seven financial years can receive a waiver of interest and penalties on older outstanding dues dating back before 2019-20.
The initiative is aimed at giving property owners an opportunity to clear their principal tax liability while avoiding additional financial charges on eligible arrears.
Scheme Available Until December 31, 2026
According to MCD officials, taxpayers can take advantage of the settlement scheme until December 31, 2026. To receive the interest and penalty relief, eligible property owners must pay the required principal property tax within this deadline.
The civic body will also contact property tax defaulters through SMS and other messages to spread information about the scheme and encourage them to clear their pending dues.
MCD Plans Awareness and Tax Collection Drives
As part of the initiative, MCD officials will conduct awareness campaigns and collection drives in different areas. The corporation plans to coordinate with group housing societies, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), market associations and business organisations to reach more taxpayers.
Property owners with pending tax liabilities can therefore use the scheme period to review their dues and complete the required payments before the December 31 deadline.
