Medal snatched from India in Asian Games, Chetan Bhatt lost due to strange rules

The strange rules in the Asian Games 2026 are costing the Indian players a lot. Mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Suchika Tariyal gave a tough fight to Singapore's Hui Hun Teo in the semi-final match of the women's 60 kg category. The match ended in a draw but the Singaporean player got the ticket for the final as her weight was 700 grams more than Suchika. Suchika had to be satisfied with bronze. Now Chetan Bhatt is forced to face the rules.

Chetan Bhatt had to face defeat on the basis of 'Senshu' in the bronze medal match of Men's 84 kg Kumite category against Meng Yu Chung of Chinese Taipei after a 1-1 draw. He had earlier been defeated 8-0 by Jordan's Mohammed Aljafari in the semi-finals at the Toyohashi Gymnasium, which took him to the bronze medal match. He and Chung had scored one point each but were left empty handed due to the 'Senshu' rule.

What is 'Senshu' rule?

'Senshu' in karate is awarded to the player who scores the first point. After the match ends in a draw, the player who scores the first point without the opponent scoring the first point is declared the winner. Here Chung had scored before Chetan. Therefore, Chung was given bronze on the basis of 'Senshu'.

MMA fighter Suchika started crying

Suchika made a strong comeback in the second round after falling behind in the beginning of the semi-final match. However, she could not gain a clear lead, after which the match went into an extra round of one minute. Here also the matter was equal. After this both Suchika and Tio celebrated the victory but the result was a draw. Then the winner was decided on the basis of morning weight of both the players. Teo was declared the winner 2–0 and thus advanced to the final. As soon as this decision came, Suchika started crying bitterly.
