Health Desk. Aging is a natural process, but after the age of 40, many changes begin to occur in the body that can impact health, energy, and performance. Therefore, making some necessary lifestyle changes in time can help you stay healthy and active for a long time.
1. Do regular exercise every day
After age 40, simply walking isn’t enough. Exercise like brisk walking, light jogging, cycling, or swimming should be done for 30 to 45 minutes at least five days a week. In addition, light strength training two to three days a week helps strengthen muscles and improve bone health.
2. Increase protein and nutritious diet
As we age, our bodies require more balanced nutrition than before. Include pulses, milk, yogurt, cheese, eggs, fish, soy, green vegetables, and seasonal fruits in your diet. Limit fried, sugary, and processed foods. Drinking plenty of water is equally important.
3. Get regular health checkups
Many serious diseases develop without any obvious symptoms in the early stages. Therefore, after the age of 40, blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, liver, and kidney function tests should be performed at least once a year. It is also beneficial to have other necessary tests periodically as advised by your doctor.
4. Good sleep and stress control
Stress can also increase at this age due to increased work pressure and responsibilities. Try to get 7 to 8 hours of good sleep every day. Yoga, meditation, pranayama, and making time for activities you enjoy can help maintain good mental health.
5. Stay away from smoking and alcohol
If you smoke or drink excessively, try to quit or cut back. These habits can negatively impact your heart, lungs, and liver. Adopting a healthy lifestyle can significantly reduce your risk of many serious diseases.
