Automobile Desk: Mercedes-Benz has globally unveiled the third-generation model of its premium crossover SUV, the GLA. The German luxury vehicle manufacturer has introduced this popular vehicle in an all-electric avatar for the first time. It has also been launched with a mild-hybrid powertrain option. Based on a new platform, this SUV not only promises a robust driving range but is also equipped with ultra-fast charging technology and a high-tech interior.
The company has built the new GLA EV on its advanced MMA architecture. This electric SUV will be available in three primary trims—250, 250 Plus, and 350. Customers will be offered with two different battery pack options: 58kWh and 85kWh. According to the WLTP standard, this electric SUV can travel a range of approximately 647 to 657 kilometers on a single full charge.
Performance and charging are impressive. The GLA 250 and 250 Plus variants feature a single rear-axle electric motor that produces 224 hp and 272 hp, respectively, along with 335 Nm of torque. The top-spectrum ‘350’ trim features a dual-motor setup and all-wheel drive technology, producing 354 hp and 515 Nm of torque. This all-wheel drive model accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in just 5.4 seconds.
To make long journeys easier, it supports 320kW DC fast charging, which provides enough power to travel up to 270 kilometers in just 10 minutes. 22kW AC charging is also available for home and general charging. For those who prefer conventional fuel options, the company will introduce a 48-volt mild-hybrid model with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine paired to an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission in early 2027.
Stepping inside the cabin is a breathtaking experience, filled with luxury and cutting-edge technology. The new GLA features an optional MBUX Superscreen triple-display setup, which includes a 10.25-inch digital driver display, a 14-inch main infotainment touchscreen, and a separate 14-inch passenger screen. For driving convenience, the three-spoke steering wheel and physical buttons on the center console have been retained, while climate control has been integrated into the touchscreen. Entertainment features include a 16-speaker 3D audio system, a 360-degree camera, and automatic parking assist.
The second-generation Mercedes-Benz GLA is currently available in the Indian market in petrol and diesel variants, with ex-showroom prices starting at ₹ 51.80 lakh. The new third-generation model, along with its all-electric version, will hit Indian shores in the near future, and is expected to be priced significantly higher than the current model.
