Message of sensitivity, protection of law! Help offered on grandmother's death, but permission not granted for demonstration at Jantar Mantar

New Delhi:Amidst the ongoing political turmoil over protests in the capital Delhi, Delhi Police has clarified its stand on the death of Abhijeet Deepke's grandmother and her detention. Delhi Police says that in this hour of grief, full attention was paid to human sensitivities, while there was no laxity in matters related to law and order. The police also showed the video of the conversation with Abhijeet Deepke in this regard in the press conference and alleged that the incident was misrepresented in the press conference of Cockroach Janata Party.

News of grandmother's demise, Khaki fulfilled the duty of condolence

During the press conference held at Delhi Police Headquarters, Deputy Commissioner of Police Public Relations Officer Neha Yadav said that as soon as the information about the demise of Abhijeet Deepke's grandmother was received, policemen were sent to give him the sad news. According to the police, they were informed about this news with full sensitivity and offered all possible assistance if needed. According to the police officer, Abhijeet Deepke was asked whether he needed air travel arrangements, phone conversation or any other kind of help. He was also repeatedly asked to talk to his parents, but he refused. Police say that after hearing such sad news, they were given time to think and understand the situation and were offered help again. The police, while presenting their stand regarding this entire incident, said that options for help were made available on humanitarian grounds. To prove this, a video of the conversation was also shown in the press conference.

Demonstration not allowed, yet questions on preparation for gathering

According to Delhi Police, the proposed protest by the Cockroach Janata Party at Jantar Mantar was not given permission in view of the due process and circumstances related to law and order. Police said there were also questions regarding compliance with earlier assurances and legal instructions. Also, citing past incidents, the police alleged heavy stone pelting, arson, violence and damage to government properties. Police say that permission was not given for the proposed demonstration at Jantar Mantar in view of the prevailing security circumstances and the need to maintain public order. Prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Defense Code were also imposed in various areas of the capital, aimed at preventing the possibility of law and order disturbance due to unauthorized gatherings and protests.

Detained on October 10, police gave reason

According to Delhi Police, Abhijeet Deepke and his two associates were detained on October 10 in view of the call for protest despite the prescribed procedure not being followed and permission being given for the proposed demonstration. Police clarified that this action was taken regarding the proposed demonstration at Jantar Mantar for which permission was not given. The police argue that during any protest it is necessary to follow the law and the prescribed guidelines. The primary responsibility of the police is to maintain security in the capital, protect public property and ensure safety of life and property of common citizens.

Answer through video, emphasis on both sensitivity and strictness

In this entire matter, on one hand the Delhi Police put forward the humanitarian approach adopted while informing Abhijit Deepke about his grandmother's demise, while on the other hand it cited reasons related to security and law and order for not allowing the proposed demonstration. The police tried to present evidence in support of their claim by showing the video of the conversation. Amidst the protests in the capital and the ongoing controversy over detention, the message of Delhi Police is clear – sensitivity is necessary in times of grief but there can be no compromise on public order and adherence to law.
