Messi has never been able to win the ‘Golden Boot’, will he leave Mbappe behind in the final?

Argentina’s star footballer Lionel Messi has a big challenge to match Kylian Mbappe to win the ‘Golden Boot’. Messi has achieved almost every major achievement in football in his career, but he has never been able to win the ‘Golden Boot’ award given to the player who scores the most goals in the World Cup.

France’s star striker Mbappe scored two goals in the third-place match, taking his total number of goals in this World Cup to 10, making him 2 goals ahead of Messi. If Messi has to win the ‘Golden Boot’, he will have to score 2 goals in the final against a team with a strong defense like Spain.

Messi has a chance to win this award

Even if Messi does not win the ‘Golden Boot’, he still has a golden opportunity to win the ‘Golden Ball’ for the third time in the World Cup final to be held in New Jersey on Sunday (July 19). Since the inception of this award in 1978, Messi is the only player to have won it more than once. At the age of 39, his important role in taking Argentina to its second consecutive World Cup final makes him once again a strong contender for this honor.

Will Messi create history?

Messi is in the final stages of his illustrious career. He has won the ‘Ballon d’Or’ award given to the world’s best footballer a record 8 times. If Argentina wins the World Cup and Messi leaves Mbappe behind and wins the ‘Golden Boot’, then he will become the first player to win the ‘Golden Boot’ from a world champion team after Ronaldo, who scored 8 goals for Brazil in 2002.

Messi probably won’t need to score any extra goals to win another ‘Golden Ball’. Messi won the ‘Golden Ball’ for the first time in 2014, when Argentina finished runner-up. After this, in 2022, he scored 7 goals in 7 matches and led his team to the third World Cup title and achieved this honor for the second time.

These awards will also be given in the final

Apart from ‘Golden Boot’ and ‘Golden Ball’, other awards will also be given after the final on Sunday. These include ‘Golden Glove’ for the best goalkeeper and ‘Best Young Player Award’ for the best player aged 21 years or younger. Spain has a good chance of winning at least one of these two awards, and possibly both. Their goalkeeper Unai Simon has conceded only 1 goal in 7 matches, while 19-year-old Lamin Yamal has cemented his place among the most talented young players in the world with his excellent play.

The winners of the ‘Golden Ball’, ‘Golden Glove’ and ‘Best Young Player Awards’ are selected from a list of players prepared by the FIFA Technical Group based on voting by media representatives.
