MG Motor India recently launched its all-new electric SUV, the Hector Tomahawk EV, in the market. The SUV, as we know, is based on the brand’s ADAPT platform and is a rebadged version of the Wuling Starlight 560 EV sold abroad. Bookings and deliveries for the Tomahawk have already started, and recently, JSW MG Motor India marked a significant milestone in Surat, where it delivered not one or two but 50 Hector Tomahawk EVs to customers in a single day.
The exterior design of the SUV has been designed to look bold and futuristic. The SUV measures 4,745 mm in length, 2,130 mm in width, and 1,770 mm in height. The SUV also offers a wheelbase of 2,810 mm. This is reflected in the cabin space too. The SUV comes with LED projector headlamps, LED DRLs, and an illuminated MG logo positioned on the gloss-black grille. The bumper looks clean, with an upright stance, a closed grille, and air curtains on the sides.
Moving to the side profile, you notice the 18-inch rotor alloy wheels, thick black cladding, roof rails, a blacked-out roof, and regular pull-type door handles. It gets large windows with a chrome lower window garnish for a premium touch.
At the rear, MG is offering an electric tailgate along with wraparound LED tail lamps, a muscular-looking tailgate, and bumper design. The Hector Tomahawk branding is seen on the tailgate, and we also see reflectors and a faux skid plate, along with cladding on the lower part of the bumper. Overall, the SUV retains a boxy design language, which everyone expects from an SUV.
On the inside, MG has actually tried to go for a premium look and feel. MG offers a black and light brown, or Almond, theme in the cabin. MG calls it the Desert Squadron interior. The dashboard, seats, and doors have soft-touch materials, and we also get a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The SUV also gets features like front ventilated seats, a 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and a 4-way powered co-driver’s seat. It also comes with a panoramic sunroof, a massive 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8.8-inch driver display, a 10-speaker Infinity premium audio system, rear window sunshades, automatic climate control, 256-colour ambient lighting, 610 litres of boot space in the 5-seater variant, and 60:40 split and recline functions for the third-row seats for added convenience.
MG is also offering six airbags as standard across the range. The Hector Tomahawk also gets a 360-degree camera, Level 2 ADAS, and more. This is also the first car in the country to offer V2H, which means it can actually power a house.
As mentioned above, the Tomahawk EV is MG’s first product to use the ADAPT architecture, and it also comes with the Magic battery pack. The Tomahawk EV uses a 69.2 kWh high-voltage battery pack paired with a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor, delivering 204 PS and 310 Nm of torque. The Tomahawk EV supports DC fast charging at up to 90 kW. It can charge from 30 to 80 per cent in around 35 minutes using a 90 kW DC charger. The EV has a claimed driving range of 517 km and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.2 seconds.
The price of the MG Tomahawk EV starts at Rs 19.49 lakh, ex-showroom, and goes all the way up to Rs 23.49 lakh, ex-showroom. Prices under the BaaS scheme start at Rs 13.99 lakh, ex-showroom.
