MG Motor India has relaunched the diesel variant of its popular SUV Hector Plus in the Indian market. Its ex-showroom price has been fixed at ₹20 lakh. The company has launched the car in the new Sharp Pro (O) trim. However, this time there has been a big change. Now, only the 7-seater model will be available with the diesel engine, while the previously available 5-seater diesel variant has been removed from the lineup.
The Hector Plus facelift was launched in December 2025, but at that time, only the prices of the petrol variant were announced. Now, the company has reintroduced the 2.0-litre diesel engine. This SUV competes directly with vehicles like the Tata Safari and Hyundai Alcazar. However, with only one diesel variant available, customers no longer have as many options as before.
What will be the design features?
The Sharp Pro (O) variant of the new Hector Plus Diesel looks almost identical to the top model. It gets LED headlights, LED fog lamps, LED DRLs, 18-inch alloy wheels and connected LED taillights.
The diesel model was earlier available in multiple trims, but now it is offered in only one trim and a 7-seater layout. SUVs like the Hyundai Alcazar, Mahindra XUV700 and Tata Safari offer more options to customers.
Premium features in the cabin
The Sharp Pro (O) trim sits just below the top Savvy Pro variant. Its interior features a dual-tone tan and black theme. Along with seven seats, leatherette is also available on the dashboard and door pads.
This SUV features a large 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8-inch digital driver display, and a 3-spoke steering wheel with physical buttons, making it easy to use.
Features and security
The new Hector Plus Diesel comes with features like ventilated and powered front seats, panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charger, 8-speaker Infinity sound system, subwoofer, amplifier and automatic climate control.
For safety, it gets six airbags, a rear parking camera, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), traction control and a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). However, it lacks features like a 360-degree camera, powered tailgate, PM 2.5 air purifier and Level-2 ADAS.
Engine and gearbox
The same 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine has been retained in this SUV. This engine produces 170 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque. It is available only with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Currently, the company has not offered an automatic transmission option on this diesel variant. Interestingly, the same engine is also used in the Tata Harrier and Tata Safari, where customers also get the option of an automatic gearbox.
