‘Michael’ sends box office into frenzy with historic debut

Michael has already hit a major milestone in the history of biographical dramas just two days after its global release.

On Saturday, April 25, Variety reported that the film, which commemorates the life and legacy of late pop icon Michael Jackson, has set a new gold standard.

The Jaafar Jackson-led project dominated the box office with a strong $39.5 million domestic opening, marking the biggest opening day ever for a biopic.

Michael has outshined Oppenheimerstarring Cillian Murphy and Florence Pugh, which earned $33 million on its opening day following its July 21, 2023 release.

Industry experts predict Michael will earn between $90 million and $100 million by Sunday, April 26, 2026, surpassing the opening weekend totals of Bohemian Rhapsody ($51 million) and Straight Outta Compton ($60 million).

Moreover, Jaafar expressed his gratitude to fans for showing up and unwaveringly supporting the project, helping make it a success so far.

“Wow so incredible to see!! The world has spoken and everyone is showing out. Thank you thank you thank you!!! I couldn’t be happier and more grateful,” he wrote on Instagram.
