The success of two very different films had given director Gurmmeet Singh another reason to look at the theatrical audience with confidence. While Mirzapur The Movie brought a popular crime franchise to cinemas, Hanuman Part connected with viewers through a spiritual story.
Gurmmeet, who directed Mirzapur The Moviespoke about the response to both films during an interaction with The Free Press Journal. He said the contrasting genres had shown that audiences were still willing to visit cinemas for stories they enjoyed.
“It’s absolutely amazing considering that they are drastically different genres. It just puts so much faith in the cinegoers, confirming that as long as they like what they see, they will keep the cinema halls full,” he said.
Mirzapur The Movie had also marked the move of the popular web series franchise from streaming to the big screen. Gurmmeet said the show’s existing fan base had played an important role in bringing viewers to theatres.
“I don’t think anyone could’ve imagined the response we have received. The fandom for the franchise was huge, but to see them arrive in cinemas and wholeheartedly enjoy the film has been an unbelievable experience and one that we will always cherish,” he said.
The film had continued its theatrical run after releasing on September 4. As of Day 25, it had collected ₹227.65 crore net in India, while its worldwide gross had reached ₹331.42 crore, according to the figures cited in the report.
Mirzapur The Movie was directed by Gurmeet Singh and written by Puneet Krishna. The film featured Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyendu Sharma, Rasika Dugal, Ravi Kishan and Mohit Maalik.
Meanwhile, Hanuman Part had also recorded a strong theatrical run. The film had earned more than ₹300 crore net in India and crossed ₹400 crore in worldwide gross, according to the report.
Directed and written by Vishal Chaturvedi, Hanuman Ansh was inspired by the life and legacy of Neem Karoli Baba. The story followed Lakshman Das, who left home after losing his mother and later became the spiritual figure known as Neem Karoli Baba.
