Mirzapur: The Movie is doing brisk business at the box office, crossing Rs 100 crore net domestically and Rs 150 crore gross worldwide in just four days.
Alongside the numbers, there’s fresh buzz around a sequel, and it turns out the makers shot two post-credit scenes, holding one back on purpose.
An industry source said, “There was another end-credit scene that was shot for Mirzapur: The Movie, but the makers consciously decided to hold it back for Part 2. The scene initially was to feature at the end of the film and set up what comes next, but the team felt its narrative significance would have a much bigger impact when the story continues.”
Details on what the scene revealed remain under wraps, with the source adding, “The scene that was held back is now expected to feature as part of the next chapter of the film.”
The scene that did make the cut shows Guddu Pandit (Ali Fazal), Munna Tripathi (Divyenndu) and Bablu Pandit (Jitendra Kumar) in a hair salon, where Munna and Guddu discover they’re both in love with the same woman, Sweety (Shriya Pilgaonkar), ending with the two drawing guns on each other, setting up a clash for the sequel.
Sources say the sequel plan wasn’t a reaction to the film’s box office success, Part 2 had always been in the pipeline, which is why both scenes were filmed in the first place.
Mirzapur first premiered on Prime Video in 2019 and ran for three popular seasons.
The film serves as an origin story running parallel to Season 1, with Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal and Divyenndu returning, alongside Jitendra Kumar, Abhishek Banerjee, Rasika Dugal and Shriya Pilgaonkar among others.
