Misbah-ul-Haq has resigned as Pakistan’s selector, which comes after the PCB made seven changes for the third and final test against England.
According to the media, Misbah has submitted his resignation to the PCB. A source familiar with the matter confirmed the development, saying, “Yes, he has sent his resignation to the PCB.”
However, Misbah will serve a notice period before formally stepping down. According to reports, Misbah was reportedly unhappy with the way the changes were made and particularly with being left out of the discussions surrounding the decision.
The former Pakistan captain was part of the selection committee but was not involved in the process that led to the seven players being sent home.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has also made changes in coaching staff ahead of the final test. First, Sarfarz Ahmed was removed as red-ball head coach, while Umar Gul was relieved of his role as fast bowling coach.
Meanwhile, White-ball coach Mike Hesson and bowling coach Ashley Noffke have been asked to oversee the team for the Edgbaston Test.
Misbah-ul-Haq joined the PCB selection committee in March 2026 as part of the transition of the panel. His appointment came after Aleem Dar resigned following the T20 World Cup. Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed was added to the selection committee at the time.
Since Sarfaraz took charge as Pakistan’s test coach, the side has suffered a 2-0 defeat against Bangladesh while levelling the 1-1 draw in the two-match test series. Currently, Pakistan are at the bottom of the WTC 2025-27 points table with only two wins out of 8 games.
Pakistan will be aiming for a win in the final test to avoid a whitewash. Misbah has previously served as Pakistan captain across formats and later worked as head coach of the national team.
He joined the selection committee earlier this year and had been involved in the team’s selection process before his reported resignation. The final test will be played between September 09-13 at EdgbastonBirmingham.
