A search operation was conducted against the prisoners for four to five hours on Tuesday.
Bengaluru. An 'Android' mobile phone was seized from the barrack of former MP Prajwal Revanna during a raid by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) at Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru. Director General of Police (Prison and Correctional Services) Alok Kumar gave this information on Wednesday.
Kumar said that the CCB had conducted a search operation for four to five hours on Tuesday against high-profile and other prisoners lodged in this high security jail. He said that CCB has lodged a complaint at Parappana Agrahara police station and the process of registering FIR in the matter is underway.
Alok Kumar said, CCB raided the jail on Tuesday afternoon. An 'Android' phone has been seized from Prajwal Revanna's barrack. He said that the jail authorities had also searched the Revanna barrack on August 6, but no banned items were found there at that time.
Kumar said that based on the report of the Director General of Police (South), Assistant Superintendent Iranna Rangapur has been suspended on charges of dereliction of duty, while a show cause notice has been issued to the Superintendent of Bengaluru Central Jail.
A detailed investigation into the incident is being conducted, he said. Kumar said that no other contraband was found during the search conducted on August 11. Prajwal Revanna, grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and son of Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Revanna, represented Hassan in the Lok Sabha from 2019 to 2024.
Prajwal was arrested in May 2024 in connection with the sexual assault cases and later convicted in a rape case. A special court in Bengaluru had sentenced Prajwal to life imprisonment in August 2025, after which he is lodged in Parappana Agrahara jail.
