Sidhi. Continuous torrential rains have disrupted normal life in Sidhi district, Madhya Pradesh. At around 7 a.m. on Friday, the Bhavarsen Ghat bridge on the Son River was submerged, disrupting communication between Sidhi headquarters and approximately 40 villages in Rampur Naikin tehsil.
Continuous soil erosion from the Bhavarsen hill has also increased the risk of landslides. The nearly 500-meter-long bridge is now submerged, blocking potholes on the road.
This has increased the risk of accidents for drivers and pedestrians. The continuously rising water level has made commuting on the bridge extremely risky. The impact of the rain is also clearly visible on the Bhavarsen hillside.
Soil and debris are continuously sliding from the foot of the hillside, raising concerns about the possibility of a landslide. If debris falls onto the road, traffic could be completely disrupted.
In light of the situation, the administration has appealed to people to avoid unnecessary travel on this route and use alternative routes. Local villagers have demanded a permanent solution to this problem, which arises annually during the rainy season.
Rampur Naikin Police Station in-charge Sudhanshu Tiwari stated that soil is continuously sliding down the hill, a video of which has surfaced. The administration is monitoring the entire area.
He appealed to people to use this route only when absolutely necessary. If they see soil or debris falling anywhere, inform the administration immediately so that necessary action can be taken in time.
Local villager Shailendra Singh Sengar stated that continuous rainfall is rapidly causing soil erosion. Waterlogging on the bridge is obscuring potholes on the road, which could lead to a major accident for drivers. Villagers say that if the rain continues, the situation could become even more serious.
