A man threw a shoe at Pappu Yadav, the independent MP from Purnia, Bihar, during a press conference at his Delhi residence. Immediately after the incident, supporters present there beat up the accused, while police detained him and began questioning him.
Pappu Yadav alleges attempted murder
Following the incident, Pappu Yadav claimed that the accused had come not only to throw a shoe, but also had a knife and wanted to kill him. He alleged that some people were publicly threatening to kill him and announcing a bounty on his head. The MP stated that the accused had been handed over to the police and an FIR was being filed against him.
Ram Temple offerings controversy
This incident comes at a time when Pappu Yadav is already in the news for the Ram Temple donation controversy. During the monsoon session of Parliament, he disguised himself as a sadhu and protested in the Parliament complex. He also performed a symbolic drama, raising the issue of alleged donation irregularities through donation boxes. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also made a symbolic donation during the protest.
FIR against Rahul Gandhi, Pappu Yadav and Awadhesh Prasad
Following the protest at the Parliament complex, an FIR was filed at the Kotwali police station in Varanasi against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, independent MP Pappu Yadav, and Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad. The complaint alleged that the protest regarding offerings for the Ram Temple hurt religious sentiments and insulted the Sanatan tradition.
There was also controversy over the statement regarding the reward of Rs 51 lakh.
Meanwhile, an official of a Hindu organization in Lucknow allegedly offered a reward of ₹51 lakh to anyone who brings Pappu Yadav’s head. Pappu Yadav says that his safety is at serious risk due to the continued threats. Police are investigating the matter.
