Mumbai: The final post-mortem report in the reported death of veteran actor Nana Patekar has identified the cause of death as natural. A team of doctors at Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Bambolim, stated in its report that the death was caused by a massive heart attack.
Goa Police confirmed the findings to IANS. According to the police, the family has also been informed about the report and has not raised any objections to the medical findings so far.
According to the final post-mortem report issued by Goa Medical College, the blood supply to the heart was cut off by a blood clot in the main coronary artery, leading to cardiac arrest. At around 2.30 am on October 8, the actor reportedly informed a family friend via WhatsApp that he was unwell. He was subsequently taken to Manipal Hospital in Dona Paula, where doctors declared him dead despite administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for about 45 minutes.
The Panaji police had registered a case of unnatural death under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), under UD No. 62/2026. Following the reported confirmation of natural death in the post-mortem examination and the ruling out of foul play involving his son, Malhar Patekar, and nephew, Prasad Patekar, the case is expected to be closed soon.
The actor was reportedly cremated with full State honours at his farmhouse in Donje village in Pune district on Thursday. He was given a three-gun salute.
Friends and members of the film fraternity, including Jackie Shroff, directors Anil Sharma and Anees Bazmee, and producer Firoz Nadiadwala, reportedly arrived at Donje village to attend the last rites.
A large crowd also gathered to pay their last respects. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reportedly paid his respects to the actor at Pune airport before leaving for Mumbai. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited the actor’s farmhouse in Pune to pay his respects.
