Meeting held between NATO countries, Secretary Elbridge Colby stressed on increasing defense spending

New Delhi. US Under Secretary of War Elbridge Colby spoke with NATO officials and stressed the need to increase defense spending. Colby said his idea for the NATO 3.0 concept received considerable support. He said I had very productive conversations with my NATO colleagues, including a working dinner with twelve European ambassadors. In all these meetings, we had frank and meaningful discussions about NATO 3.0 and the urgent need for our allies to increase defense spending and share responsibilities among themselves. So that a conventional defense system can be created under the leadership of Europe to protect this continent. The good thing is that the NATO 3.0 concept is gaining strong support. Now it is very important that this should not be limited to just words, but it should also be implemented quickly.

Albiz Colby said that the approach would be much closer to ‘NATO 1.0’ than the approach of the past thirty-five years. This ‘NATO 3.0’ requires even greater efforts from our allies, so that they can step up and shoulder primary responsibility for Europe’s conventional defence. I would like to emphasize that this does not require a unilateral focus on military power alone. Rather, in line with the Harmel Report’s approach to NATO 1.0, it offers an approach that classically combines such strengthening with diplomatic outreach. Which was represented by the dual track approach of the 1970s and 1980s. Today, President Trump’s efforts are aimed at strengthening NATO as well as negotiating an end to the tragic war in Ukraine.
