The South Korean automotive giant Hyundai Motor India has once again released another new teaser of the upcoming Bayon SUV just ahead of its official launch in India. The new mid-size SUV will sit between the Venue and Creta in Hyundai’s line-up, and it is expected to make its debut in India during the festive season. A number of teasers have already revealed parts of its exterior and interior. And the latest video gives us another clear look at the design of the upcoming SUV.
The latest 11-second teaser gives us a close look at the front-left section of the Bayon and highlights the LED daytime running light. The teaser shows a sharp, inverted L-shaped LED DRL which has been positioned towards the top of the front fascia. Meanwhile, the main headlamp is expected to sit lower down on the bumper.
The DRL design is quite different from the current Hyundai SUVs in India and gives the Bayon a distinctive front-end appearance. Hyundai has also shown the vehicle’s red bodywork and part of the sculpted front fender in the latest teaser. However, being a teaser, most of the SUV is hidden in the dark.
Before this latest teaser, Hyundai has already released a few other teasers showing other parts of the Bayon. These teasers revealed the LED tail-lights and alloy wheels of the upcoming SUV. The front-end teasers have also given a glimpse of the split-headlamp setup, with the slim DRLs placed above the main headlamp units.
The main headlights appear to have a design similar to those seen on the Hyundai Verna. Meanwhile, front parking sensors can also be seen on the test vehicles and teaser images. The side profile revealed in the earlier teasers shows 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels with a sharp geometric design.
The SUV also gets thick black cladding around the wheel arches and functional roof rails. At the rear, the Bayon gets slim, wraparound inverted L-shaped LED tail-lights mounted on a thick black section. The rear design appears to avoid a full-width connected LED light bar. And the tailgate has been seen with a rear wiper and a partially blacked-out C-pillar.
Now coming to the overall silhouette of the Hyundai Bayon, it has been noted that the vehicle will boast a crossover-like design rather than the more upright shape seen on other Hyundai’s SUVs. Previously spotted camouflaged test vehicles have revealed prominent wheel arches, sharp character lines and regular pull-type door handles.
The SUV will follow Hyundai’s Art of Steel design philosophy and will be positioned between the Venue and Creta in the Indian portfolio. What is interesting is that the Indian-spec Bayon is expected to look quite different from the Bayon sold in international markets. Hyundai is also calling the upcoming model an Intelligent Utility Vehicle. This highlights that the company will be offering a combination of SUV styling and everyday practicality.
Hyundai has previously released interior design sketches of the Bayon. And they gave us an idea of what to expect inside the cabin. The dashboard is expected to get a layered design with dual digital displays, a three-spoke steering wheel and a vertically oriented AC control panel in the centre console. The overall dashboard design appears similar to the fourth-generation i20 revealed in Brazil in June of this year.
Other expected features include paddle shifters, an all-new centre console, soft-touch or textured materials on the door pads and a wireless phone charger. The SUV is also expected to get automatic climate control, a panoramic sunroof, electrically adjustable front seats, leatherette upholstery and ventilated front seats.
The Hyundai Bayon is expected to use the Creta’s 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine. The engine is expected to be offered with both manual and CVT gearbox options. It has also been reported that Hyundai is expected to offer the Bayon with a factory-fitted CNG kit using an underbody-mounted tank and a manual gearbox.
If the company offers this CNG kit, the Bayon would become Hyundai’s first model measuring over four metres in length to get a CNG powertrain. This will allow it to compete with CNG-equipped midsize SUVs such as the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Maruti Suzuki Victoris.
The Hyundai Bayon is expected to be priced between Rs 9 lakh and Rs 14 lakh (ex-showroom). As for the launch, the SUV is expected to make its official debut in India during the festive season, although an exact launch date has not been announced as of yet.
