New Delhi: The guidelines related to mobile connections issued by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) of the Central Government will come into effect from Monday. As per the new guidelines a person can have a maximum of 9 mobile connections in common areas. However, in Jammu and Kashmir, Assam and North Eastern region, the limit has been reduced to 6 mobile connections.
As per DoT guidelines, telecom companies should identify customers who are approaching the pre-determined number of mobile connections. These customers should be informed about their eligibility for a new connection that is available under the new guidelines.
Information to get new SIM
As per the new guidelines, customers will have to provide details about the number of mobile connections they have in their name under different telecom operators and licensed service areas for which they (customers) will have to fill in the Application Form (CAF).
This is being done to control the excessive mobile connections in the name of customers which exceed the prescribed limit.
Monitoring will be done through Digital Intelligence Platform
According to the DoT circular, information about customers who have more mobile connections in their names than the prescribed limit has been made available on the department's Digital Intelligence Platform (DIP).
The Department of Telecommunications has prepared this system to help the telecom companies in identifying the customers in whose name the prescribed number of mobile connections has been completed.
Customers will also be identified through photos
Photographs will also be used in the new system to identify customers. The Department will provide photographs on DIP of subscribers who have reached the maximum connection limit.
Telecom companies will be able to download photographs of the respective customers through DIP and check the status of their mobile connections.
What will happen if the connection exceeds the limit?
If a customer takes mobile connection more than the prescribed limit then action will be taken regarding the excess connection. According to the circular, mobile connections activated more than the prescribed limit can be immediately suspended.
This suspension will continue until the matter related to exceeding the prescribed limit of mobile connections is resolved and the necessary process is completed.
