Dubai: The ICC has taken action against Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sri Lankan fast bowler Asita Fernando for the incident that took place on the first day of the second Test being played between India and Sri Lanka in Colombo. Both players have been fined 25 percent of their match fees for Level-1 breaches of the ICC Code of Conduct.
According to the ICC, both players were found guilty of breaching Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. This rule relates to inappropriate physical contact with a player, player support personnel, umpire, match referee or other person during an international match.
After a dispute their heads collided
The incident occurred in the 17th over of India's first innings. Asita Fernando dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal, after which an argument started between the two players.
Jaiswal moved towards Fernando and an altercation took place between the two. After this Fernando moved his head towards Jaiswal. In response, Jaiswal also leaned forward, due to which their heads collided with each other.
Both players accepted the mistake
According to the ICC, Jaiswal and Fernando pleaded guilty. Both also accepted the punishment proposed by Andy Pycroft of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees. In such a situation, there was no need for a formal hearing in the matter.
One demerit point each has also been added to the disciplinary records of both the players. There was no previous such offense registered against both the players in the last 24 months.
These umpires made allegations
Ahsan Raza and Sharafuddaula Ibne Shahid, third umpire Rod Tucker and fourth umpire Prageeth Rambukwella, who were present on the field, had made allegations regarding this incident.
