NHAI 1033 Highway Helpline Upgrade for Safety

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) plans to upgrade its 24×7 toll-free 1033 helpline with Artificial Intelligence (AI), real-time location tracking, and smart emergency-response systems to deliver faster assistance to travelers.

Currently covering over 1.46 lakh km of National Highways and receiving nearly 15,000 daily calls, the helpline provides critical support during medical emergencies, vehicle breakdowns, FASTag issues, and highway patrol coordination.

Under the Next-Generation 1033 initiative, AI-assisted multi language support will help pinpoint caller locations instantly and rapidly dispatch ambulances, cranes, or patrol teams.

Proactive incident alerts and improved cross-departmental coordination will further streamline operations, while human operators will continue making critical emergency decisions.

To execute the project, the Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL) has invited Expressions of Interest (EOI) from technology, logistics, quick-commerce, and emergency-response firms to design, deploy, and maintain the new digital platform.
