It is believed that the fast observed on this day with full devotion and rules brings special blessings of Lord Vishnu.

When will Nirjala Ekadashi fast be observed?
According to the Vedic calendar, the Ekadashi date of Jyeshtha Shukla Paksha is called Nirjala Ekadashi. In the year 2026, Ekadashi tithi will start at 8:09 pm on 24th June and will continue till 8:28 pm on 25th June. Based on Udaya Tithi, the fast of Nirjala Ekadashi will be observed on 25 June 2026.
Why is this fast considered special?
Nirjala Ekadashi is also known as Bhimseni Ekadashi and Pandava Ekadashi. According to religious stories, during the Mahabharata period, Bhimsen was not able to observe all the Ekadashi fasts. Then Maharishi Vedvyas advised him to observe fast only on Nirjala Ekadashi. It is believed that by observing this one fast one attains virtue equal to all the Ekadashis of the year.
Prepare like this before puja
The necessary materials for fasting and puja should be collected a day in advance. Tulsi Dal is considered to have special importance in the worship of Lord Vishnu, hence make arrangements for it in advance. Along with this, clean the worship place of the house and make it sacred, so that there is no hindrance in the worship process.
Worship method of Nirjala Ekadashi
Take bath in the morning after Brahma Muhurta or sunrise and wear clean clothes (Nirjala Ekadashi). If possible, wear yellow colored clothes.
After this, light a ghee lamp at the place of worship and take a pledge to fast.
Start the worship by installing the idol or picture of Lord Vishnu. First of all remember and worship Lord Ganesha.
After this, bathe Lord Vishnu with Panchamrit and offer yellow sandalwood.
Offer yellow flowers, yellow clothes or Kalava to God and offer Tulsi Dal or Tulsi Manjari.
Then complete the puja with devotion by offering incense, lamp, sweets and naivedya.
Importance of chanting mantra and story
Chanting Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevaya Mantra 108 times during the puja is considered auspicious (Nirjala Ekadashi). It is also considered necessary to listen or read the story of Nirjala Ekadashi on the day of fasting. After this, Aarti of Lord Vishnu and Lord Ganesha should be performed. Devotees can also remember Vishnu Sahasranama, Vishnu Chalisa and Hari Naam on this day. There is a religious belief that this pleases Lord Vishnu and the seeker gets spiritual benefits.
