Nishu Azad case: Crackdown on Swatantra Bhardwaj, preparation for 307 along with SC-ST Act

The case of Swatantra Bhardwaj, accused of attacking Nishu Azad's father Sanjay Kumar during the July 20 Parliament march called by CJP in Delhi, is once again in the headlines. CJP leader and Nagina MP Chandrashekhar Azad reached Sansad Marg police station on Friday, September 4, after the alleged confession video went viral on social media. Chandrashekhar Azad met the police officers at the police station and discussed the action in the case. CJP leaders are demanding action against the accused and justice to Sanjay Kumar.

After talks that lasted for about two hours, it is being claimed quoting sources that sections of SC/ST Act will be imposed against accused Swatantra Bhardwaj. Along with this, Delhi Police will conduct medical examination of Sanjay Kumar again. According to sources, based on the medical examination report, it will be decided whether a case of attempt to murder should be registered against Swatantra Bhardwaj or not. At the same time, it is also being said that the arrest of the accused will be ensured in the case.

What did Nishu Azad say?

After the leaders' meeting with Delhi Police officials, Nishu Azad said that the police have assured them that Swatantra Bhardwaj will be arrested within 72 hours. He said that the police has assured action and he hopes that there will be no further delay in the case. Nishu also alleged that for the last several days, he is being continuously harassed and threatened by Swatantra's supporters. He told that he has lodged an FIR in this regard also. He said that the Jantar Mantar incident affected him mentally a lot. According to her, she could not go to school for several weeks and she felt that people were looking at her in a bad light. Nishu expressed hope that the police will now take action in the matter and ensure that they do not have to face any trouble in future.

What did Nishu Azad's lawyer say?

On behalf of CJP, Nishu Azad's lawyer and Rishabh Ranjan of AICC Law Department said that in the meeting held with the police in the presence of Additional DCP Manjeet Sharma, a demand was made to add relevant sections of attempt to murder, criminal intimidation and SC/ST Act to the existing FIR. According to him, the police has agreed to add these sections. Rishabh Ranjan said that a demand has also been made to register a separate FIR regarding the online threats and misbehavior that Nishu Azad is receiving. He said that Delhi Police has assured to arrest Swatantra Bhardwaj today or within maximum 72 hours. He said that the list of accounts which have indulged in online misbehavior against Nishu has also been handed over to the police, so that action can be taken against the concerned people.
