Will the war in Ukraine stop without buying Russian oil? Jaishankar poked Trump sitting in Zelensky's country

Ukraine is at war because countries like India are buying oil from Russia. Donald Trump has imposed tariffs on India with such 'strange' reasoning. This time, sitting in Ukraine, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar punched the US President without naming him. After a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, he said that whether a country buys or doesn't buy oil has nothing to do with stopping the war.

After the start of the Russia-Ukraine war from 2022, several Western countries stopped importing Russian oil. However, many countries such as Germany continue to import Russian gas. At that time, India started buying Russian oil at a low price. Suddenly, the amount of Russian oil imports started to increase. America did not take this matter well from the beginning. But New Delhi's position was clear, keeping in mind the national interest, oil would be procured from wherever it is profitable to import oil.

In August last year, Trump imposed a 25 percent tariff on Indian goods for the 'crime' of buying Russian oil. Then he made it clear that Russia is carrying out killings in Ukraine with the money from the sale of oil. That is why countries importing Russian oil will be 'punished'. Trump 'instructed' India to stop buying Russian oil. Not stopping here, the Trump administration wants to pass the Russia Sanctions Act 2025. According to the bill, the countries that buy oil, gas, uranium, petroleum products from Russia should be imposed duties. That duty can be up to 500 percent.

Jaishankar has attacked Trump many times before without mentioning Russian oil import. After meeting with Zelensky this time, he said, “The war has been going on for five years. But the problem will not be solved based on who bought the oil or other goods. The problem can be solved only through negotiations.” Jaishankar reminded that India has to provide energy resources for 1.4 billion people. Jaishankar also reminded that even if there is a war in Ukraine, this issue needs to be kept in mind.
