Niti Aayog: In preparation for major reforms in the country’s school education, Niti Aayog gave 13 important recommendations to the states for quality.

Delhi. NITI Aayog has advocated constituting a task force at the state and district level to improve the quality of schools in the country. It is also suggested to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) for creative and student-centric education. In the report titled ‘School Education System in India: Timely Analysis and Policy Framework for Quality Improvement’, the Commission has given 13 recommendations to improve the quality of schools.

The five educational recommendations include fundamental changes in teaching methodology, assessment and learning, emphasis on holistic education and student well-being, reimagining vocational education and skills integration, strengthening Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) and integration of AI in educational innovation.

Additionally, the eight systemic recommendations include improving school design through holistic schools and evidence-based rationalization, strengthening school infrastructure, governance reforms and administrative capacity building, institutionalizing a ‘whole of society approach’ through state and district level task forces on school quality, and empowering school management committees.

Other systemic recommendations include improving teacher deployment and professional development, expanding digital and broadcast-based learning, and promoting equity and inclusion. India’s school education system consists of 14.71 lakh schools in which more than 24.69 crore students receive education, making it the largest system in the world.

The report presents a comprehensive analysis on key dimensions such as access, infrastructure, equity, inclusion, digital integration and learning outcomes for 36 states and union territories, considering the progress made over the last decade. It also noted encouraging progress in the area of ​​equity and inclusion, particularly with improvements in girls’ participation and enrollment of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students.

The report also indicated improvement in learning outcomes across classrooms following the global pandemic. Based on data analysis and consultation with stakeholders, the report also identified 11 key challenges in systemic and academic areas.
