A dramatic turn took place during the Cockroach Janata Party’s (CJP) nationwide protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar over the NEET paper-footage case. Sher Singh, a constable posted with the Uttarakhand Police, came on stage and submitted his “resignation” to CJP founder Abhijit Deepke. The incident took place at a time when the CJP and the opposition parties were continuously protesting from Parliament to the streets demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and justice for the aggrieved candidates. This action by the constable in support of the paper footy and student agitation has become a topic of discussion on social media and in political circles.

Gangster links and already suspended
After the dramatic resignation of Constable Sher Singh, Kumaon Range IG Nivedita Kukreti revealed the truth of the matter while talking to reporters. The IG clarified that constable Sher Singh, who made the misleading statements, is already under suspension and has a serious criminal background.

Since June 28, 2026, he was missing from work from Pithoragarh district without any prior notice. He was suspended from government service on July 20, 2026 for not responding to the show cause notice issued by the Pithoragarh Superintendent of Police (SP). Besides, he was arrested and sent to jail on January 15, 2025 for a serious crime and is currently out on bail.

IG Nivedita Kukreti further said that a departmental inquiry is already underway against Sher Singh for permanent dismissal from service for his involvement in organized crime. Now he is facing extra stringent legal and departmental action for going to Jantar Mantar and inciting students and making misleading statements. Police have appealed to citizens and students not to believe any such rumors or misleading statements.

Meanwhile, Union Minister J. P. Nadda and Dr. Jitendra Singh had a discussion with environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk who was on hunger strike as well as CJP representatives. Although the central government has agreed to withdraw the cases filed against the protesting students and to pay compensation, the demand for the resignation of the Union Education Minister is still in limbo.
