New Delhi: The severe flash flood that occurred in the northern hilly areas of Nepal has caused large-scale devastation. Many houses, roads and buildings were washed away in the flash flood waters. According to Nepal Police, so far 579 people have died in this disaster, while about 2000 people are missing or uncontactable, in which about 300 Indian citizens are also said to be included.
Family goes missing from Bhopal for pilgrimage
The impact of this natural disaster has also reached those families living in India, whose relatives had gone on a trip to Nepal. 29 members of the family of Devki Adhikari, resident of Kolar area of Bhopal, are missing after the flood. It is reported that the entire family had gone for pilgrimage to Gosainkunda in Nepal on the occasion of Sawan Purnima.
Last phone call increased anxiety
According to a media report, Devki Adhikari had received a call from Nepal at around 9.30 am on Thursday morning. Family members told on phone that they had reached a high hill to escape the flood. He then tried to take shelter in a local person's house, but water entered there too.
Recalling the last conversation she had with the family, Devaki told that her voice on the phone was very scared. The family members had said that a part of the house was submerged in water and they felt their lives were in danger. During this time he also appealed to take care of the children. However, contact with the family was lost after this. The family members called several times, but no response was received. According to the family, the phone was connecting for some time, but the voice stopped coming from the other side.
No trace of 29 people yet
It is reported that this group of 29 people including Krishna-Radhika Khanal and Ramchandra-Bhavati Khanal Adhikari had gone on pilgrimage. The family members were staying at different places but no one could be traced after the accident. According to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, relief operations are underway to search for missing people and ensure the safety of Indian citizens. The ministry also said that about 400 Indians are stranded on the Chinese side, but they are all safe.
