New Delhi: Amid the ongoing controversy over alleged irregularities in donations linked to the Ayodhya Ram Temple trust, former general secretary Champat Rai has written an open letter making several key claims. Rai said that all major decisions related to temple construction were taken only after approval from the Nripendra Misra-led Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple Construction Committee.
Rai's letter comes at a time when questions are being raised over the functioning of the temple trust and the management of donations. He claimed that no major work was carried out without the committee's approval.
'No Decision Was Taken Without Construction Committee's Approval'
In his letter, Champat Rai claimed that the construction committee headed by Nripendra Misra had complete authority over important decisions related to the temple project.
Rai stated that if any decision was taken outside the committee's approval, it was not accepted. He said every major task was executed only after discussions and approval from the panel.
He also claimed that the committee appointed people of its choice to assist in the temple work and held regular meetings, sometimes every month and occasionally even after 15-day intervals.
Champat Rai Praises Nripendra Misra's Role
Rai also praised Nripendra Misra's contribution to the construction of the Ram Temple, saying his efforts played a crucial role in completing the project.
He credited Misra for ensuring that construction continued despite challenges, including the difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rai said that whenever technical or logistical issues emerged, Misra would bring experts to Ayodhya and find solutions to move the construction work forward.
Nripendra Misra Says He Has Not Seen Rai's Letter
Meanwhile, Nripendra Misra said he has not seen Champat Rai's letter and refused to comment on its contents.
Misra dismissed reports of any internal differences within the temple construction committee, saying that claims of a dispute were based on incomplete information.
SIT Report Increased Scrutiny Over Trust
The controversy surrounding the Ram Temple donations intensified after a Special Investigation Team (SIT) examined allegations of financial irregularities in the trust's functioning.
The SIT report reportedly highlighted shortcomings in financial management but did not find direct evidence of embezzlement allegations against Champat Rai or former trustee Anil Mishra.
Both Rai and Mishra stepped down from their positions on June 25 amid growing pressure and criticism.
Donation Controversy Timeline
The issue first gained attention after Samajwadi Party leader Tej Narayan 'Pawan' Pandey alleged irregularities involving temple donations.
Following the allegations, the Uttar Pradesh government formed an SIT to investigate the matter. The probe led to the arrest of several individuals linked to donation handling and collection activities.
