If you too use ATM, then this news is for you. Bank has tightened withdrawal rules for ATM users. So far transactions were free. Any amount of money could be withdrawn. But now these transactions have been restricted. The number of free transactions has been reduced. Let's know which bank has set the limit and what will be the effect?
Which bank made the change?
Canara Bank has changed the rules for savings account holders using the bank's ATMs or cash recyclers from September 1, 2026. Many rules have been amended. If you are a regular customer, you can now withdraw only five times from your ATM for free. But exemption has been given for senior citizens. The limit of free transactions for them has been kept as before which remains at eight per month.
Separate charges for larger transactions
Importantly, if a customer withdraws five times in a month and then wants to withdraw from the ATM for the sixth time, he will now have to pay extra charges. These charges amount to ₹23. Therefore, the transaction will have to be done by paying more GST. Earlier this fee was ₹20 plus GST. This means the bank has also increased the cash withdrawal charges.
To check account balance
There has been no change in charges for non-financial transactions such as account balances, such as checking account balances. After the limit of free transactions is over, such transactions will be charged ₹5 plus GST.
Also changes in rules regarding minimum balance
Canara Bank has also increased the charges for transactions that occur when the customer's account does not have sufficient funds. Earlier such transactions were charged at ₹17 plus GST, which has now been increased to ₹23 plus GST. This charge will be applicable even after the limit of free transactions is over.
