According to reports, companies have been given months to convert their entire fleet of bike taxis to electric. This means, a step has now been taken to convert bike taxis from petrol to electric.
Companies will have to switch to EVs
According to reports, all the companies currently using petrol-powered bikes will have to switch to electric vehicles and are said to have been given six months to do so. However, this deadline is not the same for all companies, as some companies have been given additional time, but with different reasons.
Instructions for implementation of the rule
As directed by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the Maharashtra Transport Department has asked RTOs and bike taxi companies to implement the rule. This means that bike taxis in Maharashtra will be converted from petrol to electric in future.
Some companies will get extra time
It may be noted that operators who have already applied for a provisional license under the Maharashtra Bike Taxi Rules 2025 will be given an additional period of three months to switch from petrol to electric vehicles. This means that, depending on the situation, companies can get up to nine months to convert all their bikes from petrol to electric. In such a situation, the biggest question is why the government has taken this decision and what is the government's intention behind this decision?
The government's intention behind this is clear
Talking about the government's intention behind this directive, the number of bike taxis in the state is increasing rapidly and petrol-powered bikes increase pollution, so the government has now taken a major step to promote electric vehicles. Also, the cost of running electric bikes is less compared to petrol powered bikes. Although the initial cost of electric bikes is higher, their running costs are lower than petrol bikes. This can also reduce the cost of bike taxi operators.
