Old woman murdered during robbery, suspect taken into police custody due to vigilance of villagers
Chhapra/Manjhi (Saran). A case of murder of an elderly woman during robbery has come to light in Sheetalpur village of Daudpur police station area of Saran district of Bihar late on Thursday evening. The deceased has been identified as Rukmini Devi, about 80-year-old wife of village resident Ramjanm Pandit. After the incident, there is an atmosphere of mourning and anger in the entire village. Due to the vigilance of the villagers, a suspicious youth was caught and handed over to the police, who is being thoroughly interrogated by the police.
According to family members, Rukmini Devi was sleeping alone in a room outside the house at around 8.30 pm. Her husband had gone to another house to have food. Meanwhile, a young man from the village allegedly entered the room. Rekha Devi, the daughter-in-law of the deceased, caught sight of him. When interrogated the young man started running away from there. Hearing the noise, the villagers arrived and caught him immediately.
After this, when the family members reached inside the room, Rukmini Devi was found dead. There were injury marks on his face, eyes and nose and pressure marks were found on his neck. Family members allege that the miscreant also took off their nose jewel.
During the search of the incident site, the police recovered a mobile phone and slippers, which the villagers said belonged to the suspicious youth. As soon as the information was received, Daudpur police station reached the spot and secured the incident site and collected evidence. The body was sent to Sadar Hospital Chapra for post-mortem.
Considering the seriousness of the case, the forensic team has also collected necessary samples from the spot. Police Station Head Nirbhay Kumar said that the police is investigating at all points and further legal action will be taken on the basis of inquiry and available evidence. All aspects of the case are expected to be revealed soon.
