Pakistan’s javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem’s Commonwealth Games journey came crashing down on Friday.
The Olympic golde medalist was knocked out of the tournament after he failed to finish among the top eight following the opening three rounds.
The athlete endured a disappointing title defence, managing a best throw of 77.41 metres before being eliminated in ninth place.
Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage claimed gold, while India’s Neeraj Chopra took silver.
The 29-year-old had also struggled in qualifying, advancing to the final with a best throw of 78.63 metres, good enough for only seventh place.
Nadeem had entered the event as the defending Commonwealth champion after winning gold with a record-breaking throw of 90.18 metres at the 2022 Games.
Arshad’s feat at the 2024 Paris Olympics was a highlight event of the year for the nation when he took home gold making it the first ever track gold medal for the country in the history of Olympics.
In addition, Pakistan’s Yasir Sultan also failed to qualify for the final after finishing at the 14th position.
