Accidents increased by 1.48 percent to 4.87 lakh in 2024
According to a report by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, an average of 56 accidents are happening every hour on the country’s roads. According to this report based on the data of the year 2024, 20 people are dying every hour in these accidents. The ‘Road Accidents in India 2024’ report released by the Union Ministry said that in the year 2024, the number of road accidents in India increased by 1.48 percent to more than 4.87 lakh.
According to the report, ‘Police departments of states and union territories in the country reported a total of 4,87,707 road accidents in 2024. Of these, 1,77,175 people died and 4,71,441 people were injured. The report said that most deaths occurred in Uttar Pradesh. In the year 2024, 24,118 people lost their lives in accidents in UP. At the same time, the maximum number of 67,526 accidents were recorded in Tamil Nadu.
