One billion betting game exposed, BJP leader on radar

Bureau Prayagraj- Jhansi’s Nawabad police on Wednesday busted a big gang operating online betting. Police have arrested three big bookies – Shubham Upadhyay, resident of Tilyani Bajaria, Vijay Badhwa, resident of Sindhi Colony, Nitin Aggarwal, resident of Baragaon Gate and recovered records of transactions worth more than Rs 100 crore from them.

On the basis of this, the police have detected nine bookies including BJP Kisan Morcha Vice President and Cooperative Bank Director Ashish Upadhyay, councilor husband Pappu Yadav. Police is searching for them. Meanwhile, the amount of Rs 50 lakh deposited in the bank accounts of speculators has been confiscated. Police officers claim that these accused will also be arrested soon.

SSP BB GTS Murthy said that in the early hours of Wednesday, the police team laid siege to the hilly road of the newly constructed JDA Colony near Sakhi’s Hanuman Temple from Mustra. To escape, the accused hit the government jeep of the police with their Fortuner car, due to which the driver and university post in-charge Nikhil Kumar were injured.

The police surrounded and caught all three accused. Eight mobile phones, one tablet, Rs 84,500 and a car were recovered from them. Booklets related to betting were also recovered. The prior criminal history of the arrested Shubham Upadhyay has also come to light.

During interrogation, names of BJP leader Ashish Upadhyay and councilor Pati Pappu, resident of Unnao Gate, Pankaj Rai, Saurabh Likhdhari, Sonu Chaddha, Harish Kumar, Akash Chanchlani, Sumit Sahu, Roshan Munshi have also come up. According to SSP, they will be arrested soon.

Through the speculative market, Shubham Upadhyay, Nitin Aggarwal and Vijay Badhwa created immense wealth worth crores of rupees in a short time. Police investigation has revealed a huge network of properties of the three. Now the police is preparing to take action under the Gangster Act after collecting complete details of their property.

According to the police, Shubham is fond of luxury cars and has bought many expensive cars including the priceless Range Rover. Apart from this, valuable plots have been purchased at about 12 places in Jhansi including Delhi’s Rajendra Nagar, Indore, Dholpur (Rajasthan), Raksa, outside Unnao Gate, Budha Road.

Two farmhouses and a shop are also registered in the names of the wife and children. Investments have also been made in mutual funds and FDs, which are in the wife’s name. Nitin Aggarwal and Vijay Badhwa are also reported to have valuable land in Jhansi, Dholpur and Indore.

A huge amount of money has also been found in the bank accounts of both of them. Police say that to avoid income tax, Shubham used to give cash to his acquaintances and spend it through them. According to Nawabad police station in-charge Ravi Srivastava, details of all the properties of the three are being collected.

The chief administrator of the mobile app through which Shubham used to run betting is said to be in Dubai. The price of a coin there was around Rs 7, whereas here it was sold for Rs 25. In this way a commission of about Rs 18 was charged per coin. Due to this difference, lakhs of rupees were earned daily. Due to the high probability of winning in the app, people used to bet huge amount of money, due to which the income of bookies continued to increase.

After the arrest of Shubham Upadhyay, the names of Pappu Yadav, husband of councilor Rajkumari Yadav from Ali Gol and Pankaj Rai, husband of councilor Archana Rai from Chaniyapur have come to light. Both of them ran away from their homes.

Police officers claim that they will also be arrested soon. Police have also come to know the names of many other councilors of the Municipal Corporation. Most of these councilors are from Premnagar and Kotwali areas. Police is searching for them.

With the start of IPL, the police has made a list of more than 970 bookies from all the police stations, out of which the names of five councilors were revealed. Their number increased after the gang was busted. In Premnagar area, the names of two councilors associated with the ruling party came to light.

The call history of these two councilors has been found dozens of times on WhatsApp from BJP’s Divisional Vice President Harendra Parihar and Vijay Parihar, who were caught a few days ago. Since the start of IPL, both the councilors used to talk to bookies on WhatsApp several times a day. The police is monitoring them on this basis. Similarly, the police is also searching for the councilor who won for the first time in Kotwali area.
