The open drain passing behind Shivnagar Society in Ward No-3 of Palanpur Municipality has been fouling with dirt for years. Unbearable stench is spreading as sewage and garbage from the surrounding areas pour into the drains. As a result, there has been a threat to the health of the students of the nearby schools as well as the local residents. Residents have been waiting for years for a permanent solution to the problem amid fears of an outbreak of disease due to mosquito infestation and filth.
In the year 2013, a written submission was made to the Palanpur Municipality with the demand to close the canal passing from the back side of the Shivnagar Society to Gayatrinagar by laying pipes. Although this representation was made by the local residents including the former municipal servant, no permanent solution to the problem has been found till date. Every time, assurances are given that the work will start soon, but the situation at the site remains unsatisfied among the residents.
