New Delhi: After revolutionizing the world of Artificial Intelligence (AI) with ChatGPT, OpenAI is now moving towards a new and bigger mission. The company is now planning to move out of the digital screen and develop humanoid robots that look and work like humans. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has indicated that the company may demonstrate a public demo of its first robot in the year 2027.
The first glimpse may be seen in 2027
According to Sam Altman, the initial demo of this project can be seen by 2027. However, this does not mean that the robot will be available for sale in the market in the same year. At present, the company has not made any final announcement regarding its official launch, features or possible price.
Why the need for human-like robots?
Most infrastructure around the world—whether homes, offices, or factories—is designed with the human body in mind. Humanoid robots with two legs and two arms can adapt far more naturally than traditional wheeled machines to perform daily tasks such as climbing stairs, opening doors or lifting items.
'AI brain' will be more important than body
The main focus of this project of OpenAI is not only to create a mechanical body, but to give it an intelligent 'mind'. The robot will not just follow pre-programmed commands, but will analyze the situation in real-time. Recognizing an object, holding it safely and completing the given task as per the situation will be its main specialty. OpenAI will use its advanced AI models to power the robot's decision making mechanisms.
Direct competition with Tesla and other companies
OpenAI is not the only contender in the field of humanoid robotics. Elon Musk's company Tesla is already working rapidly on its 'Optimus' robot, while companies like Boston Dynamics are also active in this direction. With OpenAI joining the race, the competition between physical AI and robotics is sure to intensify in the coming years.
