– Sergeant Surendra Kumar (Air Force Medal – VM) – 39 Wing (Indian Air Force) – Martyrdom: 10 May
– Subedar Major Pawan Kumar – Headquarters, 10 Infantry Brigade – Martyrdom : 10 May
– Rifleman Sunil Kumar (Veer Chakra – VrC) – 4 Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry – Martyred : 10 May
– Constable Sunil Kumar Singh – 237 Field Workshop Company – Martyrdom : 6th June

On 6 May 2025, the Indian Army launched a targeted operation against terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) under ‘Operation Sindoor’. Nine terrorist bases of Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba were targeted during this campaign.

Following talks between the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of India and Pakistan on 10 May, both countries agreed to cease military operations.

The National War Memorial was inaugurated in 2019 near India Gate. The names of the soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice for the defense of the country after independence are recorded on this monument. The inclusion of the names of these six martyred soldiers in ‘Operation Sindoor’ has made this military operation one of the operations officially honored on the National War Memorial.

‘Operation Sindoor’ started after Pahalgam terror attack

‘Operation Sindoor’ was launched in the early hours of 7 May 2025. This military operation by India came just two weeks after the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir. 26 civilians, most of them tourists, were killed in the Pahalgam attack.

During this operation, the Indian Armed Forces carried out precision strikes on nine terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The attacks targeted infrastructure linked to terrorist outfits Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Following this, talks were held between India and Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) following Pakistan’s appeal. Subsequently, on 10 May 2025, both countries agreed to cease military operations and the four-day long ‘Operation Sindoor’ was called off.
