“The targets in these three locations were destroyed during precision strikes,” Tarar said, referring to the three provinces in eastern Afghanistan at ‘X’ – Paktia, Paktika and Kunar.
Afghan Taliban government deputy spokesperson Hamdullah Fitrat said that at least 36 civilians were killed and 163 others were injured in the Pakistani strikes. There has been an increase in attacks targeting police and security forces in Pakistan in recent years.
Authorities have blamed the Pakistani Taliban (known as TTP) and armed groups affiliated with it for much of the violence.
Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, a splinter group of the Pakistani Taliban, claimed responsibility for the Karachi attack in a statement on Saturday night. Tarar said that in Pakistan’s new operation on the Afghan border, Pakistani Taliban hideouts and safe havens were targeted.
