Trump’s support is costing Pakistan very dearly, it is spending millions of dollars every month, report exposed
Pakistan after Operation Sindoor There is a strong inclination towards America. Pakistan Army Chiefs Asim Munir and Shahbaz Sharif also did not shy away from visiting America several times and showing themselves as Donald Trump’s special agents. But now public documents recorded in America have revealed many important information regarding Pakistan’s diplomatic strategy. According to records, Pakistan is spending around 9 lakh to 10 lakh dollars every month to further its interests in Washington and to gain access to the American administration. This disclosure has come at a time when Asim Munir has made many big claims regarding the recent India-Pakistan tension.
According to documents available under the US Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), Pakistan has been in constant touch with US policy makers, lawmakers and government institutions through various lobbying firms and consultancy groups.
What information was revealed from the FARA documents?
Details of lobbying activities conducted by foreign governments and organizations in the US are publicly recorded under FARA. These records have revealed that Pakistan is spending approximately 10 million to 12 million dollars annually on lobbying and diplomatic contacts. According to reports, various lobbying companies have been entrusted with the responsibility of reaching out to senior officials of the US administration and influential policy makers from Pakistan’s side.
What is the complete model of lobbying?
Commenting on this topic, foreign affairs expert Robinder Sachdev said that appointing lobbyists by foreign governments is a normal process in the American political system. “The $1.2 million contract cited in recent reports is not unusual for Washington. All foreign governments employ lobbyists from time to time,” he said. However, he also said that the level of spending by Pakistan reflects its current diplomatic priorities.
How many lobbying firms does it spend through?
1. A lobbying firm is being paid $50,000 per month to arrange meetings with US officials for Pakistan’s Interior Minister.
2. The second firm has received a contract worth about $2.5 lakh per month for assistance on issues related to trade and economic matters.
3. Another firm, which was initially hired at $25,000 a month, recently succeeded in winning a huge contract worth $1.2 million.
The documents also indicate that during the heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, there was a significant increase in Pakistan’s lobbying activities. According to the report, between May 6 and May 9, 2025, Pakistani representatives and agents recorded about 60 contacts with the US Parliament (Capitol Hill), the Pentagon and the US Treasury Department. This was the same time when India carried out Operation Sindoor as a retaliatory action after the Pahalgam terrorist attack.
What was Asim Munir’s claim?
This revelation has come at a time when Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir had recently claimed that India had expressed its desire for US mediation during the military tension. According to Pakistani media reports, Munir had said that Pakistan had accepted this proposal with the aim of maintaining regional peace.
However, lobbying activities recorded in US records indicate that Pakistan maintained active contacts with US administration and institutions during the same period. FARA documents make it clear that even during tense situations, Pakistan spent massive resources to maintain access to US institutions and effectively present its case.
