Pakistan lost to Australia, now how will Team India reach the semi-finals?

Australia defeated Pakistan by 113 runs on Wednesday (June 23) in the 21st match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. With the help of Ellyse Perry’s strong innings of 71 runs in 48 balls, Australia had scored 199 runs losing 7 wickets, in reply to which the Pakistani team was reduced to just 86 runs. Perry also did wonders with the ball and took 2 wickets. Thanks to his all-round game, Australia registered its fourth consecutive win, which almost confirmed its place in the semi-finals. At the same time, the problems of the Indian team have increased.

What will Team India do now?

India is at second position in Group-1 after winning 2 out of 3 matches. South Africa and Bangladesh have also played 3-3 matches, in which they have won 2-2. Team India is ahead of these two on the basis of net run rate but with Australia’s victory, its path to the semi-finals has now become difficult. If Pakistan team had defeated Australia, India’s task could have been easier. Now Team India will have to win both its remaining matches at any cost to reach the semi-finals.

Harmanpreet Kaur Brigade’s next match is against Bangladesh on Friday (June 25). After winning this match, Team India will face Australia on Sunday, which will be a virtual quarter-final for them.

The matter may get stuck on net run rate

The Indian team’s net run rate is still quite good (2.511) but it will also have to focus on improving it against Bangladesh. This is because three teams from Group-1 seem to finish on 4 points and the matter may get stuck on the net run rate. Australia (4.724) has a tremendous net run rate. Even if he loses to India, he will not have much tension.

Team India will have to take care of South Africa, whose next two matches are against Netherlands and Bangladesh. Both these teams are weak in front of South Africa. The South African team can improve its net run rate (-0.546) by achieving a huge win. In such a situation, to reach the semi-finals, the Indian team will have to take care of net runs along with victory.

What if Team India loses?

If India loses even one of its remaining two matches, then it will have to pray that South Africa and Bangladesh also lose one match each. However, Harmanpreet’s army would like to avoid getting into this situation, because depending on the results of other teams leads to disappointment most of the time.
